III DOMENICA DI PASQUA – Lc 24,35-48
Apparendo ai discepoli la sera di Pasqua, Gesù li saluta ‘Pace a voi’. Sono sconvolti e impauriti! Gesù mostra loro le sue piaghe e li invita a toccarlo. Per mostrare che è davvero Risorto, in carne e ossa, chiede qualcosa da mangiare; gli offrono una porzione di pesce arrostito, lo mangia davanti a loro. Ancora sbigottiti e increduli, Gesù li richiama agli annunci da Lui già fatti sulla sua futura passione, morte e risurrezione, e a quanto ‘scritto’ in Mosè, nei profeti e nei salmi. L’evento della morte di Gesù era già ‘scritto’! ‘Era necessario che avvenisse!’ A pensarci, però, nelle Scritture non c’è la chiarezza da Gesù stesso invocata. E, infatti, è solo Lui, con la sua grazia, a scaldare dolcemente il cuore e ad aprire la mente alla piena comprensione delle Scritture.
In verità, poi, la questione è altra! L’evento della morte era stato molto indigesto ai discepoli, non perché non conoscessero le Scritture o non le capissero ancora, ma perché quell’evento era scandaloso in sé, inaccettabile, inconcepibile. Era anzi un evento del tutto incompatibile con l’immagine del Messia che essi attendevano e con l’immagine di Dio che essi avevano in mente. Né potevano bastare le descrizioni del ‘servo di Yahvé’ e simili (i carmi di Isaia), per potere arguire sulla ‘necessità’ dell’evento passione e morte. Gesù perciò apre, sì, la mente alla Scrittura, ma lo scandalo, l’imprevedibilità, la durezza dell’evento della passione e morte restavano tutti.
Il problema, perciò, nella mente dei discepoli era: perché quella morte era ‘già scritta’? Perché ‘era necessario’ che Cristo soffrisse e morisse in croce come uno schiavo? Perché il Padre non aveva risparmiato il proprio Figlio e lo aveva consegnato e immolato su quell’infame patibolo? Perché Dio si è arreso totalmente alla cattiveria umana, alla perfidia del potere religioso e secolare, alle urla oscene di una folla rabbiosa e sguaiata? E perché il Figlio s’è fatto obbediente fino alla morte e alla morte di croce? Perché s’è consegnato, innocente, senza fiatare, ai suoi carnefici? Tanti ‘perché’ a cui era davvero difficile, impossibile rispondere.
Se le domande non avevano alcuna risposta per i discepoli, ahimè, esse non ne hanno neanche per noi, né mai l’avranno. Solitamente però, quando le domande non hanno risposta: o non sono domande oppure inevitabilmente nascondono qualcosa di inaudito, di indicibile, di inaccettabile. Una follia insomma e uno scandalo! Una follia e uno scandalo per la ragione e l’intelligenza; incomprensibili e intollerabili per la saggezza e il semplice buon senso umano. E, in effetti, è proprio questo il caso.
Adesso capisco profondamente quelli che stentano a credere, quelli che trovano difficoltà ad accogliere il vangelo; comprendo il dubbio, il tormento, la difficoltà di molti; e anche un certo scetticismo da parte di chi resta perplesso davanti allo scandalo della croce. Capisco anche quelli che dall’alto della loro preparazione intellettuale, dei loro studi letterari, filosofici o scientifici, della loro raffinata cultura, sono insensibili alla fede. Ovviamente, bisogna riconoscerlo, nessuno trova nulla da eccepire su Gesù uomo, sulla sublimità del suo insegnamento e sull’esemplarità della sua vita; e tutti concordano anche nel ritenere Cristo personalità unica nella storia delle religioni mondiali. Ma la croce? Lui, Figlio di Dio, morire inchiodato su una croce? Lui, innocente, preda di una banda di feroci assassini? Straccio in bocca a un branco di cani che lo insultano, lo bastonano, lo irridono con ghigno satanico? Impossibile da comprendere e da mandare giù!
Perciò San Paolo parla di “follia per i Giudei e di stoltezza per i Greci” (cf 1 Corinzi 1, 22-25). Follia e stoltezza per i discepoli, follia e stoltezza per gli uomini di tutti i tempi. Perciò essere cristiani è difficile. Predicare il vangelo, doveroso, è anche rischioso, amaro, difficile. Testimoniare Cristo è arduo. Né c’è alcun modo per stemperare il mistero della morte in croce. L’esempio, certo, e la coerenza dei discepoli sono d’obbligo, se si vuole far qualche breccia su chi non crede; la povertà e l’umiltà nei suoi discepoli che lo annunciano, di sicuro rende più credibili. ‘Exempla trahunt’, dice il notissimo detto sapienziale. Una chiesa accogliente, libera, aperta – Dio sa quanto ne siamo lontani oggi! – farebbe da forte spinta. Comunità poi vive e attente, aperte e pensanti – Dio sa…! – aiuterebbe, eccome! Tuttavia lo scandalo del Calvario resta tale e quale. Non bastano zuccherini pastorali o mezzucci mielosi per parlare della Croce; non richiami sentimentalistici o ritualismi devoti; e neppure rampogne donchisciottesche e idiosincratiche contro il mondo, la secolarizzazione e l’ateismo.
C’è solo un modo per affrontare lo scandalo della croce: digerire lo scandalo e la follia divina, ovvero mandare giù la logica del chicco di grano! (Gv 12,24). Ma questo è un problema solo ‘personale’. Non di massa, non di numeri, non di truppe, non di propaganda. Ma unicamente ‘personale’: mio, tuo, di lui, di lei. Né posso schermirmi, riparando dietro a qualcun altro. Devo ingoiarlo io, e solo io, da solo, nell’intimo della mia coscienza libera, se voglio!
Il fatto è che nella croce, c’è da accogliere la novità assoluta della fede cristiana: la novità sconvolgente di un Dio ‘Padre’ estremo, inclusivo, debole, misericordioso, arrendevole; la novità di un Dio ‘Figlio’, crocifisso, braccia spalancate ad abbracciare tutti, ad annunciare il dono rivoluzionario della pace, pronto a rinnegare se stesso, a mettersi in vendita, a perdere la faccia, pur di chiamare l’uomo a libertà; la novità inebriante di un Dio ‘Spirito’, brezza leggera e soave, tenera carezza capace di squarciare la corazza egotica dell’uomo, di farlo ‘rinascere’ e di muovere il cuore di ognuno alla Gratuità e all’Amore!
